We are based in Shirley, West Virginia. For three years we have been developing an agri-tourism business devoted to producing high quality livestock, fruit, and our own homemade maple syrup.This year we hope to produce maple candy and jelly to sell to the visitors who come to the farm. If you can come for a visit, the maple tea will be on hand and your seat by the wood-pile and evaporater will be a warm place to see the maple syrup being produced. We are always glad for hands on help. The maple syrup supply is sold at the farm only until our volume increases and is bottled in glass or plastic jugs ( half pints, pints, and quarts). Please e-mail for pricing and availablity. If interested, we can supply information or web sites to get the story of maple sugaring. Since this is West Virginia, the maple syrup business is, for the most part, limited to cottage industries, ours being the only one we know of in this part of West Virginia. One overlooked fact (especially by New Englanders) is that the state tree of West Virginia is the Sugar Maple and is threatened by an excess of an oak-happy logging industry. We would like to remind naturalists to start taking steps to acknowledge and protect West Virginia's State Tree, the Sugar Maple, and try their hand at an old folk art, sugaring.
